League of Legends automatically records your recent games, letting you watch replays to learn, improve, or relive epic moments. But many players ask the same question: How do I open those .rofl files?
Here’s the short and clear answer.
Step 1: Locate the Replay File
- Open the League of Legends client.
- Click on your Profile (top-right corner).
- Go to the Match History tab.
- Find the game you want to watch and click the download icon next to it.
This will download a .rofl
file to your Replays folder, usually located here:C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\League of Legends\Replays
Step 2: Open the Replay
Once downloaded, you can either:
- Click “Watch Replay” directly from your Match History, or
- Double-click the .rofl file (if League is installed properly, it will launch the client and start the replay).
If the file doesn’t open:
- Make sure the League client is closed, then try again.
- Ensure the .rofl file version matches the current patch. Old replays break after patches.
Optional: Rename or Save Replays
Replays auto-expire with new patches. To keep them:
- Record them with screen capture software (like OBS).
- Or rename and archive the .rofl files—but they’ll only work if you match the patch version using third-party clients (not officially supported).
TL;DR
- Download the replay via the client → Match History.
- Open it via the “Watch Replay” button or double-click the file.
- Replays only work on the patch they were created in.
Easy to find. Easy to watch. Hard to stop rewatching your pentakill.
