How Does Ranking Up Work in Marvel Rivals?

Updated: 7th June 2025 2 min read

Marvel Rivals’ competitive mode offers a structured and challenging ranking system that rewards skill, teamwork, and consistency. Whether you’re a new player climbing from Bronze or a seasoned competitor chasing the top, understanding how the ranking system works is key to your progress.

Unlocking Competitive Mode

Before you can enter ranked play, you must:

  • Reach Level 10 by playing quickplay matches.
  • Once unlocked, you’ll start at Bronze III, the lowest competitive tier.

Rank Structure and Progression

Marvel Rivals features nine main ranks, most with three tiers (from III to I, with III being the lowest and I the highest in each rank):

Rank Order (Lowest to Highest)Tiers per Rank
Bronze, Silver, Gold, PlatinumIII, II, I
Diamond, Grandmaster, CelestialIII, II, I
Eternity, One Above AllNo tiers (single division)
  • To advance a tier, you must earn 100 ranked points per tier, so 300 points to move a full rank (e.g., from Bronze III to Bronze I).
  • You gain points by winning matches (typically 15–40 points per win, depending on performance and rank), and lose points for losses.
  • Individual performance—such as eliminations, healing, or damage blocked—can influence the number of points gained or lost, especially at lower ranks.

High-Level Ranks and Special Rules

  • Eternity and One Above All: These are the top two ranks. Eternity is reached by surpassing Celestial I, and One Above All is reserved for the top 500 players globally at the end of the season.
  • No tiers in Eternity and One Above All; progression is based on points (or stars) and leaderboard position.
  • Hero Bans: Starting at Diamond III and above, teams can ban one hero before each match, adding a strategic layer to high-level play.

Ranked Restrictions and Teaming

  • Playing with Friends: Players in Gold and below can team up freely. From Gold I to Celestial, you can only team with others within three divisions of your rank. In Eternity and One Above All, restrictions are even tighter.
  • Rank Reset: At the start of each new season, your rank drops by six divisions from where you finished the previous season (e.g., finishing at Gold I starts you at Bronze I next season).

Tips for Ranking Up

  • Win Matches: Winning is the fastest way to climb; focus on teamwork and objectives.
  • Perform Well: Individual stats like final blows, healing, and damage can boost your point gains.
  • Master Roles and Heroes: Understanding your role (Strategist, Duelist, Vanguard) and hero synergies is crucial for consistent wins.
  • Adapt at High Ranks: Learn to use and counter hero bans, and refine your strategies as competition stiffens from Diamond upward.
