How to Change Clubs in League of Legends

Updated: 20th September 2025 2 min read

League of Legends has always been about more than just gameplay—it’s about community. Clubs, Riot’s in-game social groups, give players a way to connect under shared banners, display tags next to their names, and organize with friends. But what if you want to change your club?

Whether swapping to a different community, leaving an old group, or adjusting your displayed tag, the process comes with a few steps and limitations.

How to Change Your Active Club

If you belong to more than one club, you can easily change which tag displays in-game.

  • Open the League client and navigate to the clubs section in your profile or social menu.
  • All clubs you belong to will appear in a list.
  • Select the club you want to represent, and its tag will now display next to your summoner name in matches.

It’s important to note that only one club tag can be displayed at a time, even if you are a member of multiple groups.

Leaving and Joining Clubs

Sometimes players want to change clubs completely—either to join a new group or leave an inactive one. The process is straightforward:

  • Open the club’s settings and select “Leave Club.”
  • To join a new club, either search for an existing one or accept an invite from another player through the social tab.
  • If you prefer to build your own community, you can create a new club via the social panel. Keep in mind, however, that each player can only own one club at a time, and clubs have membership caps.

Managing Tags and Ownership

Changing your active tag is simple, but altering the text of the tag itself requires club owner privileges. Currently, Riot restricts direct tag editing for most players, meaning the only way to create a fresh tag is to form a new club.

Ownership responsibilities also matter. Club owners can manage membership, approve invites, and transfer ownership to another player through the management interface. If you plan to step back from active leadership, passing ownership ensures the group continues smoothly.

The Future of Clubs

While Riot has gradually reduced emphasis on clubs in favor of other social tools, they remain a unique way for players to represent communities inside the client. Tags carry weight, signaling identity, camaraderie, or simply fun inside matches.

Changing clubs—or just switching tags—lets players refresh how they present themselves on Summoner’s Rift.
