Whether you chose it a decade ago and it no longer fits, or you’re just ready for a fresh start, Riot Games allows players to change their Summoner Name with a few easy steps. But the process comes with a few caveats, including cost and availability.
Here’s a detailed look at how to change your Summoner Name in League of Legends—and what to know before you do.
What Is a Summoner Name?
Your Summoner Name is the name visible to other players in the client, during champion select, in-game, and on leaderboards. It’s different from your Riot ID, which is used for cross-game identification across Valorant, TFT, Wild Rift, and other Riot titles.
If you’re only interested in changing your name within League of Legends, it’s the Summoner Name you’ll need to update.
Step 1: Open the League of Legends Client
First, log into the League of Legends desktop client with your Riot Games account. This is the platform where all name changes must be made.
Step 2: Go to the Store
Once inside the client:
- Click on the Store icon in the top right corner (it looks like a stack of coins).
