Unlocking Hextech chests and loot the easy (and free) way
Key Fragments are essential in League of Legends if you want to unlock Hextech Chests, which contain skins, emotes, and other cosmetic rewards. But how do you earn them?
What Are Key Fragments Used For?
You need three Key Fragments to create a full Hextech Key, which opens chests earned through:
- Champion Mastery (S-rank or higher)
- Loot purchases
- Event rewards
Chests often contain skin shards, ward skins, emotes, and Mythic Essence.
Ways to Earn Key Fragments
- Honor Rewards
- The primary way to get Key Fragments is through Riot’s Honor system
- Players with Honor level 2 or higher have a chance to earn them after matches
- Post-Game Drops
- Occasionally awarded after a win if you’ve behaved well
- Monthly Limit
- You can earn up to 12 Key Fragments per month
- Special Missions and Events
- Some seasonal events offer Key Fragments as rewards
Key Fragments are account-bound and cannot be traded or gifted.
Tips for Getting More Fragments
- Maintain a high Honor level
- Avoid reports or AFK behavior
- Group up with friends for better teamwork ratings
