In the world of League of Legends, victory is often measured not only by a team’s ability to destroy the enemy Nexus, but also by its sportsmanship and positive behavior. The Honor system is a core part of this, rewarding players for being good teammates and contributing positively to the game’s community.
Unlike other progression systems, earning honor isn’t about getting kills or winning every game—it’s about consistency, teamwork, and attitude.
How the Honor System Works
Every player starts a new ranked season at Honor Level 3, with the goal of climbing to the highest rank, Honor Level 5.

Progression is tied to receiving honors from teammates after each matchmade game.
- Honoring Your Teammates: After a game ends, you can honor one teammate for one of three key qualities: being a great teammate, showing a “tilt-proof” mentality (staying calm and positive), or being an excellent shotcaller. While honors from premade friends don’t directly contribute to your honor progress, demonstrating friendly communication and good teamwork in general will.
- Checkpoints and Rewards: As you climb the honor ranks, you’ll hit specific checkpoints that grant rewards. These can include Honor Orbs, Capsules, and at the top levels, exclusive items like unique skins and chromas, loading screen flairs, and special recall animations.
Tips for Earning More Honor
- Maintain a Positive Attitude: The easiest way to earn honor is to be a good sport. Encourage your teammates, stay calm in difficult situations, and try to de-escalate conflicts rather than fueling them.
- Communicate Constructively: Use pings and chat to coordinate plays and support your team. Clear, constructive communication can make a big difference and is often rewarded with an honor.
- Avoid Negative Behavior: Negative actions like flaming, trolling, or intentionally feeding will reset your honor progress and can lead to a ban on rewards. Consistency in positive behavior is more important than a few great games.
- Honor Your Teammates: When your entire team honors a single player, everyone on the team receives a small bonus to their honor progress. Make a habit of honoring a teammate you feel played well or kept a good attitude, and you’ll likely see the same in return.
In the end, staying positive and being a good teammate isn’t just a way to unlock rewards; it’s the best way to make the game more enjoyable for everyone and build a better community.
