What Does “Ace” Mean in League of Legends?

Updated: 5th April 2025 1 min read

If you’ve heard the triumphant “ACE!” from the in-game announcer, you’re witnessing a turning point. An ace occurs when one team manages to eliminate every active player on the enemy team simultaneously. It’s more than just a flashy moment — it’s a strategic opportunity.

What Happens When a Team Is Aced?

  • The aced team’s respawn timers start, ranging from 10 to over 60 seconds depending on game time.
  • The victorious team can use this window of opportunity to:
    • Take Baron Nashor or Elder Dragon
    • Push down towers and inhibitors
    • Set up vision and reset safely
    • Or even end the game if the death timers are long enough

Aces are a natural tipping point, especially during the mid to late game. When coordinated with good macro play, they often lead to objective control and snowballing the match.

Are There Variations of an Ace?

Prestige Triumphant General Darius

Yes. Some specific types include:

  • Clean Ace: All five enemy players die and none of your teammates do.
  • Counter-Ace: Your team gets aced immediately after killing the enemy team due to low HP or bad positioning.
  • Partial Ace: If four enemies die and one disconnects or is AFK, an ace won’t be called.

Also, if the fifth enemy is reviving in base, the system still calls it an ace as long as no one is alive on the map.

Famous Aces in Competitive Play

In pro play, some of the most iconic moments come from well-timed aces. Think of the 2019 World Championship Finals, where team fights decided entire series. A well-executed ace can go down in esports history.

Acing your opponent isn’t just satisfying — it’s one of the most impactful actions a team can take in League.
