Ultra Rapid Fire (URF) is one of League of Legends’ most iconic and high-octane game modes. First introduced in 2014 as an April Fool’s event, URF has become a fan-favorite thanks to its ridiculous speed, crazy plays, and unpredictable outcomes.
What Makes URF Different?
URF significantly alters standard gameplay by:
- Reducing ability cooldowns by 80%
- Eliminating mana and energy costs
- Increasing movement and attack speed
- Lowering healing reduction
This means you can spam abilities non-stop, leading to fast-paced and often hilarious teamfights. Champions like Ezreal, Sona, and Hecarim become unstoppable machines.

ARURF vs. Original URF
There are two versions of URF:
- URF (Pick Mode): Players choose their champions
- ARURF (All Random URF): Champions are randomly assigned, improving balance and variety
ARURF is now the most common version, as it prevents players from abusing OP champions and makes each game feel fresh.
When Is URF Available?
URF is a rotating game mode, not available all year round. Riot typically brings it back for:
- Seasonal events (e.g. Lunar New Year)
- April Fool’s or major patches
- Special celebrations (e.g. 10th Anniversary)
URF usually sticks around for 2–4 weeks before being vaulted again.
