The LLA, or Liga Latinoamérica, was the top professional League of Legends competition for the vast Spanish-speaking territory of Latin America (LATAM). Formed in 2019, the league consolidated the professional circuits of Central and South America into a single, premiere entity based out of Mexico City, serving as the region’s sole representative on the international stage.
The LLA’s existence was a pivotal moment for esports in the region, bringing together talent from countries like Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, and more. Its creation was specifically designed to strengthen Latin America’s global standing by unifying talent pools and resources from the former Liga Latinoamérica Norte (LLN) and Copa Latinoamérica Sur (CLS).
The unified structure provided a clear pathway for teams to qualify from various national circuits into the highest level of regional play, all under the operation of Riot Games Latin America.
The New Chapter: The League of Legends Championship of The Americas
While the LLA was the defining league for LATAM for five years, its era as an independent entity concluded after the 2024 season.

In a major structural shift for the Western hemisphere, the LLA has been integrated into the League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA), starting with the 2025 season. This new pan-American league is a massive reorganization that combines the top teams from North America, Brazil, and Latin America into a single, two-conference system.
The teams that previously competed in the LLA now participate in one of the LTA’s conferences—either the North or the South—depending on their original regional affiliation. This reorganization aims to foster a more competitive environment, increase the quality of matches, and ultimately bolster the entire Americas’ performance in global tournaments like the World Championship.
LLA’s Lasting Impact
Despite its transition, the LLA’s legacy remains profound. It successfully provided Latin America with its first genuinely unified platform for professional League of Legends, creating high-quality broadcasts, fostering intense regional rivalries, and generating an immensely passionate fanbase.
The league was instrumental in elevating the visibility of Latin American players and organizations on the world stage. Now, that legacy continues as LATAM teams face a new level of cross-regional competition, with the foundation laid by the LLA serving as the springboard into the unified future of the League of Legends Championship of The Americas.
