How to Activate All Chat in League of Legends

Updated: 28th March 2025 1 min read

League of Legends’ chat system defaults to team‑only communication—but enabling All Chat lets you message opponents as well as allies. Here’s the fastest way to toggle it on during a live match.

Quick Steps to Enable All Chat

  1. Press Esc to open the in‑game Settings menu.
  2. Click Interface, then scroll down to the Chat section.
  3. Find Chat Visibility (or Enable All Chat) and select All.
  4. Close Settings—All Chat is now active for the remainder of the game.

Alternative Method via Chat Dropdown

  • While typing, click the chat channel dropdown (top of the chat box) and select All instead of Team.

Why It’s Disabled by Default

All Chat is off by default to minimize toxicity and distraction. Riot Games keeps communication focused on teamwork, reserving inter-team chat for players who choose to enable it.

Etiquette and Safety

  • Use All Chat sparingly and respectfully—unprovoked harassment can lead to penalties.
  • If you encounter abuse, type /mute all to block enemy messages without disabling teammate chat.

Enabling All Chat opens the door to friendly banter (or strategic mind games), but always keep sportsmanship front and center.
