Where Does League of Legends Save Replays?

Updated: 5th July 2025 1 min read

If you want to review your games, showcase a pentakill, or study a misplay, the League of Legends replay system has you covered. But many players wonder: how to record a match, where are these replays saved, and how do you use them?

How to Download a Replay

  • Head to your Match History tab in the client.
  • Click the Download icon next to the match.
  • Once downloaded, a “Watch Replay” button appears.

You can also record Highlights from within the replay player by clicking the red record icon.

Where Replays Are Stored (Windows)

Replay files (.rofl) are saved to:

  • C:\Users\[YourUsername]\Documents\League of Legends\Replays

Highlight clips (.mp4) are saved in:

  • C:\Users\[YourUsername]\Documents\League of Legends\Highlights

You can manually rename or move these files — just be sure not to change the file extension if you want to keep them playable in the client.

Limitations of Replays

  • Patch-Specific: Replays only work on the patch they were recorded on. When a new patch goes live, older replays often become unusable.
  • Client-Only Playback: You can’t open .rofl files outside the League client unless you use screen recording software.

How to Save Replays Permanently

To archive your replays as video files:

  • Use OBS Studio, Nvidia ShadowPlay, or the Windows Game Bar
  • Record the match while watching it via the client
  • Save it as a standard .mp4 or .mkv file for YouTube or personal review, afterwards you can open the replay files.

This method is ideal for content creators or players who want to build a highlight reel.
